In the Press to Forgive, don’t Bypass the Heart

To paraphrase a song from the musical South Pacific, you have to be carefully taught to forgive. It doesn’t seem to come naturally to most of us. Yet is perhaps the most powerful healing tool we have.

How many mind/body books and experts link diseases like cancer to unforgiveness? Let me share a story.

I was in a basic class at my then church learning metaphysical principles. We spent a whole week on forgiveness and still had quizzical looks on our faces.

What?! You want me to forgive the bastard for f-ing up my life. Or in my case, I needed to apologize to him for f-ing up his life. Neither side is easy. Or what we think we want to do. Even to heal.

Reverend M shared one of his experiences. He was preaching about abundance and how the universe responds to our beliefs. So if we want more abundance, the change starts in our hearts, and minds.

After the talk a woman in a wheelchair came up to him and asked if he believed she could heal and walk again. For a moment, he was at a complete loss.

After all, how could he promise that for sure for sure? He didn’t know her or how strong her belief was. But in that next moment, he had a flash of insight to ask her if…
