Let’s see, build a persona, create a uniform. I like your Book Mechanic description very much: Down-and-dirty strategies for successful commercial writing (both fiction and non-fiction), with a blue collar work ethic and a no-nonsense voice. We so get who you are!!!! So who am I? This reminds me of Ruth Reichl’s book, Garlic and Sapphires. When she was a NYT food critic all the big restaurants had her picture posted. So a theater friend created several personas for her each very different. Her and my favorite was the super-gregarious red head, Ginger, who wore flowing fabrics and spent more time helping folks at the next table than eating. Do I have the guts to be a Ginger? Oh, and name our tribe. That could be magical. too!!!! I heard a writer speak recently who got no traction with publishers until she re-branded herself with a persona that matched her sexy heroine — and got immediate attention. If I can find the exact phrase she used, I’ll try to post it here. So, thanks August for such a provocative post!!! Much to chew on!
