My hat’s off to you, Shaunta! You seem to have endless patience. My late aunt who i adored was able to hide the depth of her dementia quite well. And when she finally accepted assisted living it was a huge relief for my cousins who were worn ragged doing the dance of checking up without looking too suspicious. But when she couldn’t figure out how to use a cell phone…

Now I am a big fan of AL, and my mom and other cousin live (separately) in the same facility which also has memory care on the premises (as well as rehab, skilled nursing and hospice).

My mom was willing to make this move before something major happened and at 88, we so appreciated this. It helped that she visited her sister and niece there socially for over a year ahead of her own move. So she had already made friends and bridge partners. She complains about the food but there is wonderful support and way more physical exercise and social activity/stimulation than I or my sister could provide without that becoming our jobs. She and my cousin enjoy a mean game of bridge several times a week! The challenge is, the better places aren’t cheap.
